JEWELLERY CARE

TOP TIPS TO ENSURE THE LONGEVITY OF YOUR JEWELLERY

  • We now provide anti-tarnish velveteen drawstring bags with every Baptist piece, so when not worn, please store your jewellery away in a closed anti-tarnish bag away from the sun.
  • Avoid using hand sanitizer without removing your gold plated rings, as this will erode the plating much quicker.
  • Avoid daily contact of cosmetics to your pieces as they can tarnish your jewellery over time.

CLEANING YOUR JEWELLERY

A simple and safe way to clean your jewellery, is using warm water and dish soap. Please take care when handling and drying the piece, and use a soft lint-free cotton cloth to pat dry, to avoid any surface scuffs and marks.

Extra care should be taken when cleaning your gold plated pieces, in order to protect the layer of gold from being worn away or scratched.

Although gold plated jewellery will not tarnish over time like silver, the gold appearance may slightly fade depending on wear and exposure to chemicals and cosmetics.

Abrasive jewellery cleaners should be avoided, as this can harm your jewellery over time, as well as polishing cloths treated with polishing agents should not be used on gold plated pieces.

Clean any gemstones, with dry soft cotton cloths and minimal pressure.

Materials

All pieces are casted in sterling silver, while some are heavy plated with a layer of 18K, unless otherwise stated.
Gold plating can be eroded with extended wear, but we do coat our pieces with 3 out of 5 microns of an 18K gold layer, which is referred to as “heavy gold plating”, to ensure the longevity of your piece.

Please do contact us at barba@headofthebaptist.com if you’d like one of your Baptist pieces to be re-plated or for just a good clean and polish to take care of any dullness and surface scratches.

We are also firm believers in showing old jewellery the love and attention that they deserve, so if you own a beloved old piece that could use some TLC or a even a quick repair, to be restored in its former glory, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
